Sometimes, you just need to change the peripheral parts like the keyboard or the monitor. Just because your Computer does not work does not  mean that you will need to change the entire set. Often, when it bogs down, only one part is the culprit  and you can change that part while  still retaining the others. Of course, this depends on what that part is. Sometimes, you also need to change a major part of the PC and doing so  will cost you the same amount of money that you will spend when you buy a new one. So before you start to budget, have it checked. 

What do you need it for?
Another important question to ask yourself is what you need the PC for. This will determine the kind of Components and specifications that you need to buy to satisfy your requirements. A person for instance who is more into word processing will not need a PC with a powerful graphics card  or sound card. Someone who only  use it for music and not for word processing will need a big hard disk space and of course a set of powerful speakers. 

What is your budget?
A lot will depend upon the amount of money that you are willing to spend. If you want a Computer that will last you several years, be prepared to spend a little bit more than the usual. This way, you will be able to  choose the brands that are known for their long life  and sturdiness.
